Introduction:
Dr. Sardar Jaswant Singh was born on 2nd September, 1904 and after finishing his academic study at St. John college at Agra and graduated as a Naturopath at the British Naturopathy College at London.
He established a small Nature cure Institution in 1928 at Mathura and published a monthly journal in English as “The Medical talk for the home”.
In January 1933, he shifted to Lucknow and in 1936, through his efforts all India Naturopathic conference was held in Lucknow which was a huge gathering of delegates from all over India who assembled for this conference and the credit for taking the initiative for holding the conference goes to Dr. S.J. Singh.
In 1963-1964 ‘The prakriti Niketan Trust’ started a central institute for Nature Cure in Calcutta for the training of Nature Cure practitioners. The institute was named “BHARATIYA PRAKRITI VIDYA PEETA” and Dr. S. J. Singh became the founder principal and chief physician of the Institution. He entirely designed the building & laboratories completely under his supervision.
In all India Nature Cure Conference held in 1974 at Lucknow, he spoke for the recognition of Naturopathy by the government. He said that it is the Primary duty of the government to help the science of Nature Cure to a matured development by opening well equipped nature cure colleges and hospital in each state of the country.
Nature Cure practitioner should be so well trained in different branches of the field that he/she may not be obliged to look modern medicine for help in different situations. He said that he was confident that in years to come, the caliber of teaching Naturopathy shall be of such a high order that an allopath seek the help of Nature cure in all his failing cases.
In Naturopathy, the combined system of treatments on the use of all the familiar sources of nature. i.e., water, air, light, heat, electricity, exercise, diet, fasting, etc. was first announced and propagated by S.J. Singh in India in 1928.
He had subsequently elaborated about the system in his encyclopedia but in practical Naturopathy, he defined Naturopathy as a relief of distress or cure of disease and improvement of physical condition by the use of familiar cases by modified, regulated & controlled to meet the special needs of the body.
Books Written by S.J Singh:
He has also written the books on, “HISTORY & PHILOSOPHY OF NATURE CURE”. He has scientifically presented all the foreign Naturopaths and has also given 10 basic principles of Naturopathy in his book. Some of his works include:

He had also published a magazine “PRAKRITHI VANI” which helped to propagate the use of nature cure for the treatment of all ailments.
